Wellbeing is "an active process of becoming aware of and learning to make choices (healthy choices)," Wellness means more than simply not being ill; it focuses on keeping your body in good condition so it runs more efficiently and you stay well longer. True wellness is proactive; recognise that you have mental, physical and social needs to operate at top functionality.

 

Definition of Wellbeing Programme

A wellness/wellbeing program is any programme implemented by an employer to improve the health of its labour force. A good wellness program also helps individual employees overcome specific health-related issues. You can provide mandatory staff training, employee seminars or even operate through a third-party provider with a range of programs. Often, employers are willing to foot the bill because health and wellness directly affect productivity and profits.

 

Wellness programs can cover a wide range of health-related issues. We will tailor your wellness programme to suit the needs of your company and can include some or all of the following options: nutrition, physical fitness, a smoking cessation programme, physiological testing such as cholesterol and blood pressure screening and stress management.

Smoking Cessation

We understand that an employee’s addiction to tobacco is intertwined with other lifestyle issues, and our professionals help keep an employee tobacco-free through a plan that addresses their social, nutritional and exercise needs. Our Smoking Cessation programme includes:

 

  • Customized assistance plan based on the participant’s initial level of “readiness to quit”

  • Strategies to help an employee deal with common fears about quitting tobacco use

  • Coordination with other resources when appropriate (EAP, financial, legal, work-life)

  • Stress management skills instruction

  • Tips for preventing weight gain

  • One-on-one telephone counseling sessions

  • Ongoing relapse prevention support

 

Weight Management

Our weight management program incorporates healthy diet, exercise and lifestyle changes. Each employee is provided with a personalized plan to help meet their individual goals and reduce the potential for more serious health issues such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease or high cholesterol.

 

We have years of experience in providing these programmes for nutrition, exercise and behaviour change. Our weight management coaching is collaborative and supportive, guiding the employee to make better decisions.

 

Our weight management program includes:

  • Meal-planning options for overall health or to address the needs of individuals with specific conditions

  • Individualized exercise plans based on the employee’s current activity level, including strength training and cardiovascular components

  • Online and/or telephonic coaching to guide an employee in achieving their weight management goals

 

Sleep, Stress and Nutrition

Sleep Risk

We offer a quick sleep risk questionnaire. It is designed to provide an indication as to your likelihood of suffering from sleep apnoea which can have a dangerous impact on health and wellbeing.

 

Sleep disorders can cause excess daytime sleepiness and increase the risk of road accidents or injuries at work. Around 10% of adults over 30 have some form of sleep disorder. Maintaining a good sleep pattern and dealing with daytime tiredness and fatigue is also more difficult for shift workers.

 

The results are combined with our general lifestyle report.

 

Nutrition

This is a quick nutrition questionnaire. It is designed to provide an indication as to current eating habits and Areas for improvement. It also calculates the employee’s recommended daily intake of fat and calories.

The report offers simple and easy to follow guidance.

 

Stress or Pressure

This is a quick stress test. It is not a diagnostic tool, but simply an indicator of the current level of stress you perceive to be in your everyday life and your current coping mechanisms. There are 20 questions which will only take a few minutes to complete.

 

Due to the sensitivity around reported stress, the raw data is not stored. The assessment will produce a report on the screen which can be printed or saved as a PDF and provided to the employee.

 

Worksite Wellness Initiatives
