Client: Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) UK
Year: 2016 - 2020
Industry: Renewables - Waste to Energy Construction
MERT International partnered with Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) on four major construction projects, delivering a suite of tailored health, safety and emergency response services.
Our engagement encompassed emergency medical response, daily drug and alcohol testing, comprehensive behavioural safety initiatives and well-being programmes, including mental health support. We also managed daily site inductions, integrating our services seamlessly into HZI’s operations to create a safer and healthier work environment.
Through our proactive and structured approach, MERT International significantly contributed to reducing Lost Time Injuries (LTI), RIDDOR incidents and accidents on HZI’s sites.
Our work not only provided immediate on-site medical intervention but also emphasised prevention, education and consistent health and safety practices.
By aligning with HZI’s "Actively Caring" strategy, we helped foster a culture of care and accountability across all levels of their workforce.
One of the hallmarks of our collaboration was our ability to benchmark safety performance reliably through detailed monthly reporting and dashboards. These insights empowered HZI to track progress and make data-driven improvements across their projects.
Our role as an independent yet integrated partner to HZI’s site HSE team ensured confidence among employees, contractors, and clients alike.
Reflecting on our partnership, Mr. Tom Murie, who served as Global Director Risk and HSE at Hitachi Zosen Inova during our collaboration, shared:
"MERT provide a comprehensive service with a highly professional and structured approach to health, well-being and safety on all of our major construction projects. The primary aim is education and support, but ultimately triaging any incidents on-site has helped us with an independent and qualified view on whether anyone needs to go off-site for further medical assessment. MERT’s involvement has been a core strength in developing the ‘Actively Caring’ strategy of HZI.”
